My Story

When I first found out I was pregnant with my son I was overjoyed. I loved being pregnant and reading all the updates about how he was growing inside me. Besides the occasional nauseous mornings I never really got sick during my pregnancy. I was right on track with my weight gain and thanks to a strong core I was able to look smaller for longer. I remember worrying about how quickly I would get back into my pre-pregnancy jeans. Little did I know then that I would soon have a bigger problem to worry about. Around 34-35 weeks I began putting on massive amounts of water weight, to the point where my OB told me I needed to slow down on my eating or get more active. I was honestly upset and shocked about the weight gain, while I wasn't eating the best I was still fairly active and hadn't changed my eating habits from the beginning of my pregnancy. I began having appointments weekly to monitor my son's growth as he wasn't measuring where he should have been. I began to notice that my body would swell up and voiced this concern to my OB. It was finally decided that I would deliver my son a week early because he was actually losing weight while in utero. I was heartbroken. To be told that your body is cutting off nutrition makes you feel like you are failing your child. Turned out that I had severe preeclampsia. Despite everything, he came into the world healthy and as handsome as can be.

16 weeks to 39 weeks and then day of birth.

Fast forward to my six week postpartum checkup. I went in hoping to get cleared for exercise. I had already started walking but was anxious to start working out so I could lose the rest of the baby weight. Because of my preeclampsia I had developed hypertension. Because of this my doctor didn't want me to start working out until we got it under control. Trying to get it under control was a nightmare. I watched myself gain weight from not only massive amounts of medications but various hospital stays and not eating the proper foods.
Shortly before my son turned three months old I lost a very dear friend, who was the sister that I never had. It threw me into a massive depression, one that I still battle to this day. Luckily I was able to join my husband in Kansas where he had relocated to the military. He was such a great support in my time of need. He could tell that besides being depressed I was also very unhappy with my body. That's when I was introduced to my first Beachbody program, P90x. Good ole Tony Horton. Completely changed my life. I was finally able to lose weight and fit into some of my pre-pregnancy jeans. Not only was I able to get my hypertension under control, but I was able to get rid of all blood pressure medications.
My P90x Transformation

Since then I have continued to workout with Beachbody programs. Including both Insanity and T25. I may not be where I want to be, but I am definitely proud of how far I've come. I'm not training for anything other than to be the best I can be. I would love to help anyone out there who's unsure of how to get started or what they can do to increase their health and happiness.
